The start of Voicu’s career at Yonder
Today, the conversation is about AI skills for software developers, but a decade ago, this was quite different.
Voicu Moldovan joined Yonder on May 13, 2013, celebrating his lucky number anniversary this year – 13. He is the Head of Digital Transformation, and we believe his career path and growth, achieved through the right mindset, are a great example of how many of us can navigate the transformation we are experiencing today.
Voicu joined as a Junior Java Developer, but he didn’t settle. From the very beginning, his colleagues remember him as someone who asked many questions, constantly explored, and tried new things.
This curiosity-driven approach opened many doors for him, and he chose to walk through every one of them.
Stepping outside the comfort zone
His career took off from mid developer to senior developer, then to team lead and delivery manager; each transition pushed him out of his comfort zone, requiring new competencies and new skills. He had to make decisions without guarantees and accept that mistakes were part of the journey. There were moments when he didn’t know if he was ready, but he chose to move forward anyway.
Even today, he maintains that mistakes are a necessary part of learning and not failures. He learned, pivoted, and never abandoned his goals. He kept expanding his skill set: moving beyond Java into .NET, frontend frameworks, automation, and deployment pipelines.
“That was the moment I realized that being a software developer is not only about writing Java classes, as I initially believed. Later, when moving into leadership roles, I learned from great mentors that for every technical problem, there is always a solution.”
Over time, that mindset became a constant in how he approached change.
“I learned that growth comes from testing and accepting uncertainty. And in those moments, it’s the people around you and the team you’re part of who lift you up and create real change.”
Voicu was and is surrounded by strong teams, some with more than 35 colleagues.
After focusing on multiple modernization initiatives and AI-related projects, his role naturally evolved into Digital Transformation.
Passionate about mathematics, physics, and chemistry, he has also stepped more into the public space in recent years. This is why you might have seen him as a speaker at several events, conferences, and workshops hosted by Yonder or 3rd parties.

AI skills for software developers: a mindset for 2026
Voicu is driven to continuously learn new skills, which means change is a constant in his career. He has shared his perspective on what software developer skills should look like in 2026.
It’s about understanding how software truly works: architecture, patterns, and how AI can be applied. And going beyond the traditional frontend/backend divide.
It’s about working faster and better.
Delivering clear results. And understanding how your output creates value.
“Tools will change. AI will evolve. But what really matters is mindset — the willingness to learn, test, and adapt continuously.”
All of this comes from continuous learning: staying up to date, testing yourself, and building on strong industry fundamentals.
“Testing is a way of learning, not failing. And if you are curious enough, you will eventually outpace static expertise. Today, Voicu helps us see clearly that mindset matters more than tools.”
Maybe not everyone reading this wants to become Head of AI or Head of Digital Transformation. But in a time when technology is evolving faster than ever, staying curious might be the most important skill we can cultivate. Or as TSS, our holding states, the future belongs to the curious.
